My 5 favorite links from our Blogroll in no particular order:
Arts Journal – an amazing portal for arts related news and spectacular blogs by Kyle Gann, Greg Sandow and many more
Art Fag City – Paddy Johnson takes a consistently interesting slice of the NY art scene
Garfield minus Garfield – I had actually forgotten this was here and was entirely happy to see it once again, removing Garfield (the character) from Garfield (the comic strip) creates gloriously psychotic story lines that are way more compelling than the original
Eater – my first stop for everything restaurant and food related – they also have divisions in San Francisco and Los Angeles
Anthony Bourdain – consistently entertaining and often heartfelt and cutting at the same time, Bourdain’s blog is a great companion to my favorite food show
We get a lot of spam comments, and, at least currently, they all seem to be about nymphets – i don’t really know why.
This morning however I awoke to the most interesting spam comment for its sheer length and scattershot, stream-of-conciousness contents. “transderm immunosuppression still couldn was sauce lace panties hanging over sounds below” or “press release was huddled does not passed your waving her ohn down pcp air guns” spring to mind – of course it’s littered with links to god knows what.
But I’m posting the entire surreal text, Without the links, after the Jump »
These have been making the blogging rounds for a bit now, but there really is something beguiling and endearing about Christoph Niemann’s micro-sculptures and NY commentary. Check out the full gallery here.
The Third Mind is on view starting today at The Guggenheim
I attended the opening of this show last night, and it is truly spectacular, and there is a strong musical presence as well, from La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela’s Dream House to scores from the FLUXUS era, to a huge presence of works surrounding John Cage. The inimitable Margaret Leng Tan has done the audio tour and I’m very excited to go back and listen.
There are also a ton of performances and lectures set for the 3 months or so it is open.
Third Mind Performances and Lectures
There is so much amazing art on view during this exhibit that we were literally running at the end of the night to see a full room installation on the top floor that is not to be missed.
I never got around to making links this Friday – although I saw some fantastic work this weekend: Welcome to Nowhere on Saturday and Siren on Sunday (which was truly spectacular).
Starting today is an interesting video project, Mondays With Merce, that should prove to be interesting as it progresses. I was particularly struck by the music used during teaching, very straightforward and, therefore, surprising (at least to my ears)
The week in things made out of food which shouldn’t be made out of food at all.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays – and Happy New Year. It’s a beautiful snowy day in Brooklyn. I expect I won’t be posting much over the next couple of weeks.
Grace Jones cast in Chocolate on CR Blog simply fantastic.
