Kim Olson performs tonight in Denver
Our very own Kim Olson, one of our earliest and most frequent collaborating artists, will be performing her work thin WATER blue ICE tonight to open the Denver 2009 Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts. The performance starts at 6:15 in the lobby of the The Ellie Caulkins Opera House at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and leads into the theatre to start the awards ceremony.

A night of minimalism and belgian dance
Last night I went to see Rosas Danst Rosas, or significantly less elegantly: Steve Reich Evening, at BAM. The program had a lot going for it, and for the most part it completely delivered.
The program contained two pieces I have heard of and knew well, but had never actually heard: Pendulum Music by Steve Reich and Poème Symphonique pour cent Métronomes by Györgi Ligeti (a Ligeti piece on Steve Reich Evening admittedly a bit odd, but it works as a really nice precursor to drumming). Pendulum Music opened the evening, and it was a beautiful realization with two speakers in a nice beating interval. Once the audience stopped snickering (same during the Ligeti, although that was to the point of shhshing the people in front of us) and we were actually able to listen, it was beautiful. (more…)
on Opportunity and Rehearsal
Over the next couple of months we will be presenting two of our works in unusual ways for us. Next week we are auditioning Shiver for the Fresh Tracks program at DTW. In early December we will present a new version of Anger at the ISIM conference in Denver.
I’m very much used to thinking about our work only within the context of Avant Media and our artists and methodologies. Taking these two works outside of Avant Media (to an extent) has proved enlightening to the nature and concept of our work (more…)

Changes coming to Avant Media
With the start of the 2008-2009 season upon us, many changes are in the works for Avant Media Performance.
Dani Beauchamp and Mike Rugnetta will now officially join Avant Media as Principal Artists. Their talents and creativity are a welcome addition to the core of artists leading the direction Avant Media will be taking in the coming years.
As a part of this new direction, the Principal Artists of the company: Ana, Dani, Mike and myself; will be sharing our experiences, thoughts, ideas, and whatever else strikes our fancy here, in what will become a regularly updated Journal of the activities of Avant Media Performance and its artists. Triplicate to be performed in May in NYC
Triplicate, an evening of trios by Avant Media artists, will be performed in New York City on May 2 and 3, 2008 at the Gene Frankel Theatre.
The evening will feature the New York premiere of “Aqua Madora”.
