Some documentation from Doleo Æternus

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

We have posted some photos of the World Premiere of Doleo Æternus over on our Flickr Page.

And we have posted a little video of the performance on the Doleo Æternus minisite and on our Vimeo Page.

We’ve also created an album on our Facebook Page. If you’re not already a fan of Avant Media on Facebook – now’s the time.

Thank you to everyone that come out to this monumental performance. We can’t wait for the next one.

on Rehearsal and Revelation

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I am now fully into rehearsal mode for the upcoming just intonation world premiere of Doleo Æternus and it’s starting to get extremely interesting. On Sunday I had the first rehearsal with the bassoonist, Annie Lyle, and the computer. This was Annie’s first time hearing the computer and I had really completely forgotten how magical it can be. Those first hints of Autumn

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Well everyone, It’s been a long and interesting summer. I posted some of my reflections about my own travels and activities over on my blog. And there’s been quite a lot going on in the Avant Media world as well. In a few weeks we’ll be releasing Voices + Sine Waves (an announcement about the release date is coming very soon) – a collection of my short works as a digital download album. And in November we will be presenting Doleo Æternus in New York City in the Just Intonation World Premiere.

I’m going to do my best to be a little bit more active on the blog and to share with you all the rehearsal and creation process leading up to this major premiere. In the mean time, after the jump, a little bit of Billie. Jump »

Doleo Æternus – a look ahead

Friday, June 19th, 2009

It’s looking more and more like the Just Intonation World Premiere of Doleo Æternus is going to happen in New York this fall. Updates with exact dates and venues will be coming in the coming weeks.

I’m obviously very excited by this fact. So I’m going to do something I don’t normally do, and post an excerpt of the work in-progress.

I’ve been rehearsing with the violinist Drew Blumberg, and we’re going to be putting together a pretty interesting ensemble for this premiere.

Doleo Æternus (Ira into Mador) VI-xiv-2009 16:33:51″ – 16:44:33″ (Brooklyn):

Performers:

  • Randy Gibson: Piano, Organs, Voice
  • Drew Blumberg: Violin
  • The Nature of Collaboration

    Monday, January 19th, 2009

In December Ana Baer-Carrillo and I collaborated on Doleo Æternus, an evening-length work for musicians, computer, and video which was presented at the ISIM conference in Denver. This is a long and tumultuous work in the history of Avant Media, and it spans almost the entire duration that Avant Media has been in existence. From our first show in New York City in January of 2007, where we premiered what was then Anger, to our most recent performance, Ana’s work has been a powerful influence on my work and a guiding force keeping me grounded enough in reality to reign in, albeit ever so slightly, my penchant for the extreme. Doleo Æternus recording

    Monday, December 22nd, 2008

I’ve just posted the full length recording of Doleo Æternus on this page: ISIM Recording

The recording turned out quite well, and I want to say a big thank you to all of the performers who played so beautifully.

    Take a listen.

    Friday Afternoon Links XII-xii-2008

    Hot Karl

    Hot Karl

I never got around to posting links last week – we were performing Doleo Æternus at the ISIM conference and it was completely insane.

There is a Flickr gallery of images we took during our trip to Denver here and more coverage will be coming as we get images from the ISIM and finalize a recording for your listening pleasure.

In the meantime – here are this weeks sporadic and miscellaneous links:

  • Hot Karl action on Racked Racked is hosting a Karl Lagerfeld photoshop contest. It is epic and fantastic.
  • Mike Rugnetta’s YouTube page has tons of interesting videos Mike and Patrick have made
  • Michael Wiltbank’s stunning photo project was censored by BYU – it is a fantastic idea with beautiful pictures [via]

    Heading Home

    Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

I’m sitting in the Denver airport on my way home from performing Doleo Æternus on Friday evening. It was a really interesting experience. Mike Rugnetta and Amali Premawardhana were fantastic. They played beautifully and I can’t wait to hear the recordings. Even though the performance is over, I still haven’t seen Ana’s video. I know we ended together and I’ve heard there were some fantastic moments of synchronicity.

I’ll be posting clips and sound samples soon.

I want to say a big Thank You to Mike and Amali, to Ana, to the Playground Ensemble, and to Kate and Conrad and everyone at DU and the ISIM. It was a great experience and I’m sure I’ll look back on this as the catalyst in the next phase of this piece.
