Well everyone, It’s been a long and interesting summer. I posted some of my reflections about my own travels and activities over on my blog. And there’s been quite a lot going on in the Avant Media world as well. In a few weeks we’ll be releasing Voices + Sine Waves (an announcement about the release date is coming very soon) – a collection of my short works as a digital download album. And in November we will be presenting Doleo Æternus in New York City in the Just Intonation World Premiere.
I’m going to do my best to be a little bit more active on the blog and to share with you all the rehearsal and creation process leading up to this major premiere. In the mean time, after the jump, a little bit of Billie. Jump »
It’s looking more and more like the Just Intonation World Premiere of Doleo Æternus is going to happen in New York this fall. Updates with exact dates and venues will be coming in the coming weeks.
I’m obviously very excited by this fact. So I’m going to do something I don’t normally do, and post an excerpt of the work in-progress.
I’ve been rehearsing with the violinist Drew Blumberg, and we’re going to be putting together a pretty interesting ensemble for this premiere.

We get a lot of spam comments, and, at least currently, they all seem to be about nymphets – i don’t really know why.
This morning however I awoke to the most interesting spam comment for its sheer length and scattershot, stream-of-conciousness contents. “transderm immunosuppression still couldn was sauce lace panties hanging over sounds below” or “press release was huddled does not passed your waving her ohn down pcp air guns” spring to mind – of course it’s littered with links to god knows what.
But I’m posting the entire surreal text, Without the links, after the Jump »
Your performance last night of Arjuna’s Dilema at BAM was a travesty of obvious choices and cliché after cliché. The next time you consider creating a short opera based on the Bhagavad Gita, here are some common pratfalls to avoid:
Try not to cast Krishna as some sort of flouncing Tai-Chi pirate.
Please, dear god, don’t let this pirate “choreograph” the entire piece. Rolling down the stairs, and miming every single possible action do not actually make a dance.
Today was the first day that I really started to feel like Fall was upon us. I’m in very serious planning mode these days with a major redesign of this website, a couple of huge audition/application-based opportunities coming up, grant applications, and searching for space for a spring show focusing on text-based work, all on my plate. I have barely had time to be outside at all.
I went to meet Jo today to talk about fundraising, and as I walked up the street ran into a friend of mine who moved to NY right around the same time I did, and who I haven’t seen in probably six years. (more…)
