The Kronos Quartet has assembled an absolutely amazing collection of performers including Mashkoor Ali Khan, Michael Harrison, Margaret Leng Tan, and So Percussion. This should prove to be an absolutely amazing concert. (more…)

I learned to mix drinks about 9 years ago or so. I’ve been cooking as long as I can remember. I have just ordered a large quantity of esoteric herbs and barks to make this bitters recipe from a bar in San Francisco.
I’ve always loved food and cooking, and mixing drinks is a natural extension of this. I think that a lot of composers are like this. There is a strong similarity between what we do as composers, and what a chef does, or a mixologist. It’s all about finding that perfect balance of flavors or notes that creates something special. The Third Mind is on view starting today at The Guggenheim
I attended the opening of this show last night, and it is truly spectacular, and there is a strong musical presence as well, from La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela’s Dream House to scores from the FLUXUS era, to a huge presence of works surrounding John Cage. The inimitable Margaret Leng Tan has done the audio tour and I’m very excited to go back and listen.
There are also a ton of performances and lectures set for the 3 months or so it is open.
Third Mind Performances and Lectures
There is so much amazing art on view during this exhibit that we were literally running at the end of the night to see a full room installation on the top floor that is not to be missed.

In just over two weeks we will be premiering the new version of Anger at the third annual ISIM Festival in Denver Colorado. This is a major new version of the work, now being called Doleo Æternus. We’re very excited to be going back to our home-town (of sorts) and peforming this piece there. The staff of the ISIM has been extremely helpful, and the soloist: Mike Rugnetta, Amali Premawardhana and Myself; will be joined by members of the University of Denver Playground Ensemble.
The program at ISIM is very large, and as such has only a small space for program notes. My full description of the piece is after the jump. Jump »
