This week (July 24th through August 1st) in Seoul, Korea, as part of the 9th Korea Experimental Arts Festival a special video-dance version of Shiver by Randy Gibson, Oscar Henriquez, and Laine Rettmer, will be screened as part of the 2010 KEAF International Short Film Festival.
The festival, curated by Jung Hee Choi, features the work of luminaries of the avant-garde such as La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela, Henry Flynt, Ken Jacobs, Phill Niblock and Katherine Liberovskay, along side the works of emerging artists. The short films will be screened daily in two outdoor theaters, from 1PM to 9PM at the Myoung Wol Gwan near Hongik University in Seoul.

In honor of John Cage’s 95th birthday, Avant Media Performance presents an evening of two multimedia realizations of works by John Cage on September 5, 2007. “Four6″ (for any way of producing sounds) will be performed in an electro-acoustic realization featuring Randy Gibson on electronics, Mike Rugnetta on guitar and video by Patrick Davison. The second half of the concert is a true musicircus with “Winter Music,” “Atlas Eclipticalis,” and an actors’ realization by Laine Rettmer of “Song Books” being performed simultaneously. The evening will also see the world premiere of Randy Gibson’s “One Wall – for John Cage” assisted by Mike Rugnetta and Guy Snover.
Bringing together musicians, filmmakers, actors, and technicians, this evening pays tribute to the collaborative and innovative legacy of John Cage.
Performance will take place at The Kitchen, 512 West 19th Street, NYC.

On January 25, 2007 Avant Media presented the world premiere of Anger the pivotal immersion performance with music by Randy Gibson and video by Ana Baer-Carrillo. Additional artists included Alicia Wargo – sculptures and costumes; Oscar Henriquez – video typography; Mike Rugnetta – guitar, banjo and pre-show music; and Laine Rettmer – voice.
The performance, held at 20 Greene in SoHo, NYC, was completely sold out. Thank you to all of our audience members and supporters who came out for this one-night-only event. This is sure to be a piece that will continue its evolution and become on of Avant Media’s signature performances. Plans are already in the works for expanded video sections and further musical development.
Shooting was completed today for the new—as of yet untitled—short film by Randy Gibson. Movements by Laine Rettmer were captured on a lightly snowy day in Colorado, and will become the images for two versions of the film. An installation-specific version and a “theatrical” version with plans for a premiere in April 2007.
Anger, by Randy Gibson and Ana Baer-Carrillo, will have its world premiere on January 25, 2007 at 20 Greene in SoHo, New York. Performance will begin at 8pm, followed by a reception with the artists.
Music will be performed live by Randy Gibson (Piano, Crotales), Mike Rugnetta (Guitar, Banjo) and Laine Rettmer (Voice). Augmenting the live music will be four channels of continuous video by Ana Baer-Carrillo projected on the performers and surrounding the audience, alongside sculpture and costumes by Alicia Wargo.

Shooting for the video segments of Anger at Joyce SoHo in New York wrapped today. Laine Rettmer, Renee Gerardo, Johari Mayfield, and Courtney Krantz danced variations of Ana Baer-Carrillo’s piece “Broken Angel” with three simultaneous cameras being used to capture their movements. We recorded some amazing moments and a had a great time. Look for updates about the video’s progress soon.
