Well everyone, It’s been a long and interesting summer. I posted some of my reflections about my own travels and activities over on my blog. And there’s been quite a lot going on in the Avant Media world as well. In a few weeks we’ll be releasing Voices + Sine Waves (an announcement about the release date is coming very soon) – a collection of my short works as a digital download album. And in November we will be presenting Doleo Æternus in New York City in the Just Intonation World Premiere.
I’m going to do my best to be a little bit more active on the blog and to share with you all the rehearsal and creation process leading up to this major premiere. In the mean time, after the jump, a little bit of Billie. Jump »

I’m on my way to Europe for the month of July. I’ll be visiting London, Berlin, and Calvi dell’Umbria where I will be in residency at the Art Monastery and creating a new piece as a part of their Labirinto festival on July 25th.
It’s become a bit of a summer tradition for me to escape New York for a month or so, and it’s one I always look forward to.
There are a lot of exciting things coming in the next few months for Avant Media and for myself. I’m really excited for a few big announcements and projects that we have in the works.
I hope you will be too.

the Listicle edition
My 5 favorite links from our Blogroll in no particular order:
Arts Journal – an amazing portal for arts related news and spectacular blogs by Kyle Gann, Greg Sandow and many more
Art Fag City – Paddy Johnson takes a consistently interesting slice of the NY art scene
Garfield minus Garfield – I had actually forgotten this was here and was entirely happy to see it once again, removing Garfield (the character) from Garfield (the comic strip) creates gloriously psychotic story lines that are way more compelling than the original
Eater – my first stop for everything restaurant and food related – they also have divisions in San Francisco and Los Angeles
Anthony Bourdain – consistently entertaining and often heartfelt and cutting at the same time, Bourdain’s blog is a great companion to my favorite food show

After an intense semester teaching at Texas State, home feels perfect.
I’ve been able to start working on new ideas and also finish some never ending tasks…..
I’ve been reconnecting with old friends and family. Thanks to Randy I became a Pandora addict and feel no shame!
I’m looking forward for the next Avant Media experience!

Living in Los Angeles I had forgotten how magnificent walking through a city could be. I spent the last five days in Portland, Oregon walking the city’s various districts, museums, and bridges. It’s a fantastic place. Between Powell Books, the exceptional and clean public transportation, and this great Peruvian drink Sacasahuman I had ordered for me, I was sold pretty early on.
But, what I ended up finding most appealing about the city was the amount of innovative and interesting art happening everywhere. In particular, the Time Based Art festival which was in full swing. In venues all around town, in easy walking distance from one another, the festival billed contemporary installation, dance, music, theater, performance and new media works. My truly wonderful, and as of Saturday married, friend Liz Nalley performed at TBA Tuesday night with tEEtH. Amazing! I highly recommend checking them out.
I was sad to leave Portland. And remain still baffled by the contemporary art scene in LA …..

I’m a couple clock ticks away from shipping off to MA to help out composer Nick Brooke during his Workshop Residency at Mass MoCA. I’ll write more about Nick, his amazing work, and all that other jazz during the residency, but I noticed today Time and Motion Study made it to the front page of the Mass MoCA website. Check out the perma-link to the show page:

I expect to see everyone in MA on Sept. 27th

This week was an intense one fro me: trying to settle down in a new place, getting a car, attending more meetings in 3 days than I did in my whole schooling years and all of that just before starting my 4 courses. This semester I will be teaching 2 levels of ballet, jazz and a choreography class. It’s all pretty exciting, but it was one long week! I am glad to be back home.
