Five nights of performances curated by Randy Gibson and Megan Schubert, featuring some of the most talented young interpreters in New York in works that highlight the influence of the performer on experimental music from the 20th century and today.
Curated by Randy Gibson and Megan Schubert, Avant Media will present a week of new and avant-garde music that shows the role of the performer as a collaborator. A critical and vibrant part of the collaborative process is the interaction between the composer and performer. This festival celebrates that moment through direct collaboration and the role of the performer in realizing more abstract scores.
In residency at Wild Project, where we premiered Doleo Æternus, the festival is anchored by the world premiere of Randy Gibson’s meditative evening-length work, Apparitions of The Four Pillars with special guest Tom Chiu; a night featuring works by John Cage performed by loadbang, the MIVOS quartet and others; and the evening length performance of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Am Himmel wandre Ich by Megan Schubert and Jeff Gavett.

The evening of performances will conclude with a large staging of Cage’s Songbooks with video realizations by Randy Gibson and Ana Baer-Carrillo from Avant Media’s celebrations of Cage’s 95th Birthday: John Cage at 95.
